Sergio Sánchez is an oboist with a broad musical interest, working with both modern and historical instruments. His musical approach is shaped by curiosity, stylistic openness, and a close attention to sound and colour.
Since 2023, Sergio Sánchez has been Professor of Oboe at the Lübeck University of Music (Musikhochschule Lübeck). Prior to this appointment, he served as principal oboist of the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra (2019–2023) and the State Theatre in Braunschweig. During this period, he also appeared as a guest with leading orchestras such as Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Munich Philharmonic, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, NDR Hannover, and the Lower Saxony State Orchestra Hannover.
As a soloist, he has performed with ensembles including the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra. He is also highly sought after as a baroque oboist and has collaborated with renowned ensembles such as Zefiro under Alfredo Bernardini, Concerto Farinelli, Il Suonar Parlante Orchestra under Vittorio Ghielmi and the Bremen Baroque Orchestra.
Sergio Sánchez completed his studies at the Lübeck University of Music in the class of Prof. Diethelm Jonas. Through an Erasmus scholarship, he continued his education at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he studied with David Walter and Jacques Tys. Furhermore he studied baroque oboe with Alfredo Bernardini at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg.
He is a recipient of numerous international prizes, including awards at the ARD Music Competition Munich, the Gillet-Fox Competition of the International Double Reed Society, the Chieri International Competition and the Barbirolli International Oboe Festival and Competition.
The musical journey of Sergio Sánchez began within Venezuela’s cultural project El Sistema. At the age of eleven, he received his first oboe lessons from Marco Tarazona, later continuing his studies with Hermes Nuñez, Victor Morles, and Ricardo Riveiro.


He gained early orchestral experience with the Caracas Children’s Orchestra and subsequently became a founding member and principal oboist of the Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra. With the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, he toured internationally throughout Europe, Asia and the United States in 2008 and 2009.
Born and raised in Venezuela, Sergio Sánchez maintains a strong connection to the music of his homecountry. This is reflected in his participation in the CD recordings Caramba and Barroqueanas Venezolanas, both dedicated to Venezuelan repertoire.
The music of his homecountry has remained a constant source of inspiration throughout his life and continues to shape his artistic work. Beyond the classical sphere, Sergio Sánchez is also active as a composer, guitarist and singer, engaging with a wide range of musical styles.
